Message From the Chairperson

Dear Members of the PSSA KZNCB,

As we embrace the digital era with the launch of our new website, I represent you full of pride and a vision brimming with optimism. Our profession, rooted in the noble art of healing and the science of medicine, has always been a beacon of hope and a pillar of strength in our community.
The journey we undertake as pharmacists is not merely a career path but a lifelong commitment to service, excellence, and compassion. Each day, we touch lives, and we contribute to the greater good of society. It is this profound impact that makes our work not just important, but essential.
The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) has always been the cornerstone of our professional unity and growth. Over the years, as members of the KZN branch, you have shown unwavering dedication and resilience, especially in times of challenge. Your contributions has shaped the landscape of pharmacy in KZN. Colleagues, I call upon you to start doing that again.
Let us carry forward the legacy of our predecessors with the same zeal and fervour. Let us continue to learn, to teach, and to inspire. Let us forge partnerships that transcend our pharmacy sectors and create solutions that benefit all.
Thank you for your commitment, your passion, and your belief in the power of pharmacy. Let’s make the 2024 year a landmark in our branch history,

Mahendra Naidoo, Chair, PSSA KZN Coastal Branch

The Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa KwaZulu-Natal Coastal Branch

We, the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa KwaZulu-Natal Coastal Branch, also known as KZN PSSA, strive to follow the motto displayed in the scroll at the base of the emblem of the PSSA, “Pro Salute et Valetudine Populi” which translated into English means “For the health and welfare of the people”. We also pay homage to where we came from. At our new premises in Westway Park, we have a collection of pharmacy artefacts and memorabilia.

PSSA KZN Sectors

The different sectors are the pillars on which PSSA KZN Coastal Branch stands.

The South African Association of Community Pharmacists (SAACP) is a sector body of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA). We are mandated to promote the interests of Community Pharmacists who are members of the PSSA and focus on building a united profession to better fulfil our professional role in the community pharmacy practice space.

SAAHIP is an acronym for the South African Association of Hospital and Institutional Pharmacists. As a sector of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA), SAAHIP has the following as its objectives: To promote the professional, educational and economic interests of the members of the Association and of the pharmaceutical profession, with specific emphasis on pharmacists active in the practice of hospital and institutional pharmacy.

Established in 1979, the Academy caters for the needs of pharmacists and non-pharmacists involved in any sphere of pharmacy. The criteria for membership of the Academy are that members shall through active involvement or through an interest in: education; research and development; production; control or marketing of medicines or; community or hospital practice of pharmacy, contribute to the pharmaceutical sciences and technology and the professional practice of pharmacy.

SAAPI, the South African Association for Pharmacist in Industry is a sector of Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA), and a not-for-profit association serving its Members by providing scientific, technical and regulatory skills development and guiding policy and scientific matters through the pharmaceutical lifecycle.

Membership Benefits

The PSSA has become aware of the fact that many of its members are unaware of much of the work done in the offices of the PSSA. We thought it might be useful to highlight some of the important activities that are carried out in the interests of its members.

Make the most of your membership. We hope that we have reminded you of what the PSSA does for you. We urge you to participate actively in your branch or sector, or even at national level.
