Shanil Singh graduated with a B.Pharm degree from UKZN (the then UDW) in 1994. He completed his internship at Pharmacare Pharmacy in Morningside in 1995. He also worked as a student on weekends and holidays from 1990 at Verulam Pharmacy under the tutorship of Mr D Dayaram. During 1996, he managed the Durdoc Clinic dispensary and was the manager of an Adcock Ingram Critical Care distribution facility. During 1997 he was involved in the opening of the Netcare Umhlanga Hospital. He introduced new concepts in private hospital pharmacies that were not implemented previously and private hospital pharmacies commenced opening retail sections within hospitals. He continued with locums at community pharmacies as he had a passion for community pharmacy.

He then went on to open a wholesale distribution facility in 2001. This was later was sold to a company in Johannesburg. In 2001, Shanil opened Windermere Pharmacy in Morningside, where community involvement with the old age homes and with the security committee in the Morningside area has been a focus from inception. He completed his PCDT training in 2012 and was granted a Section22 permit in 2014. He also worked as a volunteer at Clairwood hospital primary care facility for more than two years He currently operates a full time primary health care clinic at Windermere Pharmacy and Health Centre which is a multi-disciplinary health centre that Shanil opened in 2021. Shanil has been a member of PSSA from 1994 until present. He has been a committee member of the ICPA KZN branch for several years.
