Dipti Desai graduated with a B.Pharm degree in 1989 from UKZN (the then UDW). She interned in 1990 at Sentinel Drug Store in Smith Street, Durban while also pursuing a diploma in Business Management. After a short stint of doing locums at various pharmacies in Durban, Dipti lectured at UDW in Pharmacy Practice for six months. She then spent just over a decade managing Mediquick Pharmacy in Overport. Here she gleaned immense insight into the running of a diverse, community based, late- night depot pharmacy, the tutoring of interns. She also learned how to grow a dynamic team of staff, with formidable influence.

Challenging the status quo in retail pharmacy, in 2003, Dipti opened the first drive-thru pharmacy in La Lucia, Durban. The success of this venture gave her the confidence to open a thriving retail independent pharmacy situated in the heart of both community and commercial areas and in 2007, Mount Edgecombe Pharmacy was created. Its strength lies in it being a passionate, vibrant business with upskilled staff, having a thriving clinic and a strong dispensary team. Dipti completed her PCDT course in Nov 2022. She is a recent past Chairperson of the ICPA KZN Branch.
